Museums are their own mini-universes, they are a gateway to the past. The film is about the fascinating and complicated process of the rebuilding of Holland’s most famous museum, the Rijksmuseum. Within the walls of the building the staff is full of passion to the metamorphosis, but outside the walls the plans are considerably hampered by welfare committees, problems with tender and combative Cyclists. The director follows among others the curators, working on the design of their new rooms and the caretaker, all those years day and night ‘his’ building keeps a sharp eye.
